Board approves routine consent items, personnel changes and equipment disposition language

The Punxsutawney Area SD board approved a series of routine consent and action items including meeting minutes, athletics clearances, transportation items, a buildings-and-maintenance item, subsets of federal programs and curriculum, and several personnel items.
The board chair asked for approval of the minutes from July 29 and Aug. 13; a motion and second passed on a voice vote. Athletics items and transportation items were each moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. A buildings and maintenance item passed after motion and second.
On personnel, the board agreed to approve items 1–4 and 5 with the exception of one part-time lunch monitor item that will be reposted pending clearances. The board also approved federal programs and curriculum items and their subsets after discussion about support specialist staffing; administration said there is historically difficulty filling some positions and that interviews are in progress.
On surplus music equipment, administration updated the proposed language to allow donation, sale or discard of keyboards to give the district flexibility. "We put on there to, donate, sale, or discard the items," an administrator said. Board members discussed outreach to nonpublic schools and community groups for zero-value items before broader disposal.
The board approved payment of the bills after a motion and second; payment of the playground pay application remainder was pulled earlier in the meeting pending contractor documentation, but other bills were paid.
The meeting closed after a brief new-business request that administration prepare information on a national study about declines in student math and reading scores.
