The Marshall County Highway Department requested annexation of two one-mile road segments into Lewisburg city limits: (1) Findlay Beach Road from the western starting point near the C.S.M. Allen B. Wortham Memorial Bridge east to the end of Robin Hood Road, and (2) Robin Hood Road from the intersection with Findlay Beach Road south one mile to an endpoint near 1480 Feble Highway.
Planning staff said the planning commission reviewed legal questions and received an advisory opinion from city legal counsel that county permits could govern improvements; the commission voted 5–0 to recommend against annexation at this time, citing unresolved permit and roadway responsibility questions. Councilors asked about turning-lane construction, traffic studies and the broader inventory of miles and associated service responsibilities for newly annexed streets; staff said a city-wide inventory of new subdivision road miles and utilities is underway.
Ending: Both annexation items were scheduled for the next regular council meeting, where council will have additional documentation and the chance to ask county and staff follow-ups before taking action.
