Planning commission backs small‑scale amendment to return Chandler Finn Drive parcels to residential use

On Aug. 19 the Bay County Planning Commission voted to forward a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners to change the future land use of approximately 5.4 acres at 3724/3730 Chandler Finn Drive from general commercial to residential and to rezone roughly 6.7 acres from C‑3/R‑5A to R‑1 single‑family.
Wayne Porter, speaking for planning staff, told the commission the property’s historic use has been single‑family residential and that surrounding land uses are residential; staff therefore recommended the small‑scale amendment and zone change as compatible with the comprehensive plan. "Staff feels the requested amendments are compatible and consistent with the comprehensive plan surrounding area and recommend the commission find the proposed small scale amendment consistent with the comprehensive plan," Porter said.
Applicant Judy Finch, who said she and family members live at 3730 Chandler Finn Drive, confirmed she is selling part of the property and asked the commission to restore residential status for the parcel. Resident Stephanie Sprouse told the commission five families live on the larger parcel and urged the change to preserve housing for those households.
Following brief discussion, a commissioner moved to adopt staff’s recommendation; the motion passed by roll call with Commissioners Christie, Daffin, Carter, Hayman and Honeycutt voting yes. The recommendation will be considered by the Board of County Commissioners.
