Morrow County OKs design contract; FAA awards grant for airport PAPI reconstruction

Morrow County commissioners unanimously approved a design contract with Century West Engineering for reconstruction of the airport's Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), and authorized county staff to execute related FAA grant documents. The board also directed staff to prepare a budget adjustment resolution.
Public Works representative Eric said the design phase will include project management, bid documents and FAA coordination and that design costs rose by roughly $59,650 from the original estimate. Finance Director Kevin Ents told the board the FAA increased its grant to cover most of the cost and the county's local contribution would be roughly $3,578.
Greg Rentz of Century West confirmed the FAA had officially awarded the grant and provided project numbers: total project cost $178,005.98, FAA covering 95% (about $169,668) and Morrow County responsible for the remainder. "The FAA has officially awarded Morrow County the grant for this project," Rentz said during the meeting.
Commissioners voted to approve the contract and to authorize the county administrator to sign, and then moved and seconded a directive for staff to prepare a budget adjustment for formal resolution. Chair Sykes called the motions and both carried on voice votes.
The county will complete the budget-resolution step before final allocation of local funds; staff said there is contingency in the fund to cover the county portion and that the contract contains standard subject-to-funding language.
