Weber State volunteer seeks Hooper volunteers for suicide-prevention coalition

Doug Myler, a volunteer with New Hope based at Weber State University, addressed the Hooper City Council Aug. 21 to request volunteers and local outreach support for a suicide-prevention coalition.
Myler described New Hope as a coalition that brings together mental-health providers, university partners and community groups to offer trainings (QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer), community booths and an annual walk in September. He said Utah ranks highly for suicide rates and that men ages 25 to 65 are a particularly vulnerable group. Myler asked the city to post coalition information on the city website and newsletter and to help recruit volunteers; staff said they would share contact information and coordinate outreach.
No formal council action was required; council members thanked Myler and asked staff to follow up with coalition contact details.
