Hooper City Council held a public hearing Aug. 21 on proposed updates to the municipal fee schedule that would raise some pavilion and field rental rates and introduce higher nonresident fees.
Council members debated several line items: whether to reserve Sunday park access for residents, how to price whole-park rentals vs. per-field fees, whether to increase the small pavilion rate from $10 to $25 (with a larger pavilion and kitchen combined at $100), and whether to remove deposits in favor of holding credit-card information. Council Member Wilcox and others expressed concern that frequent nonresident tournament rentals on Sundays reduce resident access. One council member suggested allowing current seasonal commitments to finish and then revisiting policy for next year.
Staff said they will keep the public hearing on record and bring a final resolution and fee schedule to the council for a vote on Sept. 18. No final fee schedule was adopted tonight; council members proposed several alternatives (for example, $50 for residents and $100 for nonresidents on some facilities) and asked staff to reconcile packet versions and return with a single proposed schedule attached to a resolution.
