The board reviewed a draft 2026–27 calendar on Nov. 10 that would start the school year Monday, Aug. 31, set the last student day as Wednesday, June 9, and include a two-week winter break with Dec. 21–22 added for construction access. Troy (S20) said DPI approved the district waiver quickly.
A public speaker representing the Oak Creek Education Association, Alec (S2), urged the board to form a collaborative group to review elementary parent-teacher conferences, arguing the current structure — described in the presentation as about 13.5 hours total and heavily weighted to evening sessions — leads to staff exhaustion and burnout. "Consistently working until 08:30PM after a full school day leads to incredible exhaustion and significant burnout," Alec said, and requested consideration of alternatives such as a one-evening/one-day split or an immediate staff recovery day after conferences.
Board members discussed trade-offs including parent convenience, contract day limitations and parity across grade levels. Superintendent Troy noted teacher contract days total 190 and that conference and professional days are part of a limited set of paid days; members suggested the district should weigh parent and teacher input before finalizing the calendar. No final vote on the calendar occurred at the Nov. 10 meeting; it was listed as an action item for Nov. 24.
