The Seymour School District’s building committee told the board that state funding approvals for a school project will move through an initial approval in December and a final approval likely around the following June, and that construction completion is forecast for roughly September 2028 if all approvals and funding proceed as anticipated.
Committee representative Peter said the district was preparing requests for proposals to interview architects and that the interim approval due in December could permit some early work if the town chose to fund pre‑June activities. He cautioned, however, that the approval is not considered final until the June milestone.
Why it matters: The district’s ability to begin construction depends on state authorization and associated funding; delays or local decisions to advance pre‑approval work change timelines and budget risk. The committee indicated it will have RFPs ready to speed transition from approval to construction.
Board members asked whether the technical start date would align with the fiscal year (July 1) and were told the timing is not yet finalized beyond the June milestone. The building representative said the full design and drawing process is expected to take about 18 months after approvals are finalized.
What’s next: The committee will continue to prepare architect RFPs and report back as approvals progress; the district said it will share more concrete schedule milestones after the December notification from the state.
