County highway staff presented multiple permit requests for fiber and utility work across Marshall County and commissioners approved them during the Nov. 3 session.
The board voted to approve 12 permit requests submitted by Brightspeed for a mix of bores, aerial fiber placements and conduit work in Center, German and other townships. Commissioners also approved three requests from BSM Group (fiber work in North and West townships) and a NIPSCO request to close a road section for a dig related to a minor station in Center Township.
Motions were made and carried by voice vote for each set of requests; no individual roll-call tallies were recorded in the public record. Highway staff said permits include both aerial placements from existing poles and 2-inch conduit bores. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate with maintenance and IT for cases where underground wires or repairs are required.
Approvals allow the companies to proceed under county permitting conditions; contractors remain responsible for coordination with township officials and for restoring rights-of-way as required.
