The Waukesha City Finance Committee voted unanimously to recommend payment of a $661.50 property damage claim from Rosabel Salinas for damage caused when a limb fell from a tree that staff said had been marked for removal.
Staff presented business item ID 25-2437 and explained the investigation: city forester Aaron Lehnert told staff the tree was known to be diseased and had been identified for removal, but Parks and Forestry crews were backlogged and had not yet removed the tree before the incident. "It was a tree that was known to be, diseased. It was marked for removal, but we just didn't get around to removing it before this incident happened," staff said.
Staff recommended allowance of the claim and explained standard practice: payment is made in exchange for a signed release that constitutes full and final settlement, preventing additional claims later. After a motion to approve and a second, committee members voted by voice; the motion carried unanimously (4-0).
The transcript contains an inconsistent spelling of the claimant—s name (appearing as both "Rosabel Salinas" and "Roseville Salinas"); this article uses the spelling "Rosabel Salinas" from the first instance in the meeting record. Staff attributed the cause to scheduling/backlog in Parks and Forestry and did not cite any other municipal policy failures.
