Oak Ridge City Council approved the city's first quarterly budget amendment for the fiscal year that began on July 1, 2025, and separately authorized up to $75,813.35 in funding assistance to Oak Ridge Schools for replacement of the Linden Elementary School gym roof.
Finance staff explained that the city will bring quarterly budget amendments going forward to increase transparency and oversight. Following the staff presentation, council opened and closed the required public hearing with no speakers and approved the amendment by voice vote (7 ayes).
On a related resolution, staff said the Linden Elementary gym roof had exceeded its life expectancy (originally expected at 15-20 years) and is currently at about 26 years old. Council Member Hansley asked whether the school district had pursued extended warranty options for the new roof; staff said they would pass the question along and could return to council to amend the resolution if the district sought to add warranty coverage.
Both the quarterly amendment and the Linden Elementary funding resolution passed with unanimous voice votes.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the budget amendment implementation and follow up on warranty options for the Linden roof if requested by the school district.
