East Greenwich ' At its Nov. 10 meeting the Town Council handled the annual renewal cycle for alcoholic beverage licenses covering Dec. 1, 2025'Nov. 30, 2026.
Town Clerk Lee Carney told the council there were no final approvals ready for immediate issuance, and that several applicants would need state or local clearances. The Greenwich Club's general manager, Joseph Murray, told the council the club used limited outdoor amplification and has not received complaints during his nine-year tenure. Council members and the solicitor noted the town's 2023 noise ordinance (effective Nov. 30, 2025) requires businesses that hold an entertainment license to demonstrate, via sound testing by a qualified expert, that outdoor amplified music will not exceed the permitted decibel limit at the property line.
The council approved the Greenwich Club's license renewal and ancillary outdoor-amplified-sound application on the condition that the club present sound-test results to the town clerk showing compliance before operating the equipment. The motion passed unanimously.
The clerk also presented a set of applicants approved by staff but still subject to final local inspections (including Blackstone East Greenwich; Dante's; Kybar; Oaks Tavern; Supreme Pizza; Tio Mateo's; Greenwich Bay Gourmet; East Greenwich Veteran Fireman's Club). A longer list of businesses with incomplete applications or awaiting state approvals (Frenchtown Liquors, Beso's, Cafe Garden, and others) was continued to the council's Nov. 24 meeting.
What happens next: Applicants granted subject-to-inspection must clear outstanding local requirements before receiving final issued licenses; the Greenwich Club must supply a compliant outdoor-sound test to the clerk before using amplified outdoor sound.
