Commission approves local-consent permits for two fundraisers and OKs off‑road race with fire-safety conditions

Canyon Creek Services requested a single-event local consent permit to sell alcohol at the Moonlit Canyon Masquerade Gala on Oct. 4 at Iron Springs Resort. The commission approved the permit after commissioners said they were not aware of past problems with the annual fundraiser.
The commission also ratified a previously signed local consent for the Red Acres Center Utah Wine Festival table dinner (Aug. 30) to meet an application deadline.
Separately, Legacy Racing Association (Donald Jackson) asked to use County Antelope Road and close Comstock Road for a Sept. 6 off-road event. Organizers described a 60-mile loop course, safety plans (portable restrooms, medical teams with 50-gallon water storage on trucks, mandatory spark arresters on vehicles, fire extinguishers and post-event road repairs), communications (radios and cell backup) and landowner outreach. Fire Warden Spencer Ola warned the commission that the area is experiencing a record dry year and recommended contracting a local fire department or securing a dedicated brush truck rather than relying solely on volunteers and equipment. The commission instructed organizers to coordinate with local fire departments and businesses, and the motion to approve the road use and closure passed by voice vote.
Next steps: Organizers were asked to exchange contact information with county emergency and fire staff and to notify neighbors and commercial operators (gravel pits) of the closure date. Commissioners emphasized the need for a contracted local brush truck or fire-department standby to address rapid wildfire risk.
