Forest Park staff presented options for cemetery maintenance on Aug. 4, saying the city currently oversees landscape maintenance for three sites — Main Street at Phillips Drive (city‑owned), Conley (Connolly) Road Cemetery (privately owned by the Forest Park Lodge of Oddfellows) and Elam Church Road Cemetery (privately owned by Elam Church Cemetery) — and that all three sites are under contract with Worldscapes LLC with roughly three months remaining on the agreement (about $11,850 remaining on the current agreement).
Public Works and the city manager asked the council whether the city should continue maintaining privately owned sites; staff said they are researching ownership records and could pursue deeding privately owned sites to the city for preservation purposes if council directs it.
Council voted to continue the month‑to‑month contract with Worldscapes LLC while staff completes ownership research and returns with recommended options for whether to continue maintenance or reallocate services to high‑visibility corridors if private sites are removed from city maintenance priorities.
Staff said that if the council decides to stop maintaining privately owned cemeteries, crews and resources would be reallocated to high‑visibility corridors such as Jonesboro Road, Dixie Highway and Forest Park Highway.
