Forest Park council approves zoning text amendment to allow and regulate EV charging stations

The City of Forest Park on Aug. 4 approved a zoning text amendment (2025‑03) to update the code to allow and regulate electric‑vehicle charging stations and EV parking.
Planning staff presented the amendment to add definitions and design standards, including site‑design requirements, landscaping, lighting, fencing, trash receptacles, maintenance and utility/code compliance. The Planning Commission had reviewed the proposal on July 17 and recommended approval.
There were no public speakers during the public hearing. Council members asked staff about benchmarking and the sources used to craft the standards; planning staff said they researched typical standards in the region and selected components they felt would meet Forest Park’s needs.
Council voted to adopt the text amendment; the item will return to the regular meeting for any final ordinance adoption steps required by the city’s legislative process.
