North Logan adopts Boulder Way Forward resolution to support women and girls

North Logan City Council on Aug. 20 unanimously adopted a resolution designating the city a Boulder Way Forward partner, pledging to use data and partnerships to advance outcomes for women and girls.
Michelle Smith, representing Boulder Way Forward, presented statewide and national data on the status of women and girls in Utah and described the initiative’s 18 focus areas intended to address safety, education, economic opportunity and leadership. “When we lift Utah girls and women, we lift all Utahns,” Smith told the council.
Smith said the Utah Women in Leadership Project at Utah State University provides the research backbone for Boulder Way Forward and that North Logan would become the first municipality in Cache County to join the program and the third city partner in the state. The city’s involvement would provide research, surveys and technical support for local policy choices and community programming.
Councilmembers welcomed the partnership. Mayor noted existing local efforts with the North Park Police Department on sextortion education and other prevention work; councilmember Emily — who has served on the Boulder Way Forward board — said the partnership was a chance to ‘‘work with people who genuinely want Utah to be better for everybody.’’
Councilmember Mark moved to approve the resolution; Kenny seconded and the council adopted the resolution by voice vote. City staff said the designation would be followed by outreach and inventory of local programs and possible collaboration with regional partners and state representatives to pursue funding or policy changes.
What’s next: staff will coordinate with Boulder Way Forward on data collection and outreach and return to council with suggested next steps for local programs and partnerships.
