The Cudahy City Council on Oct. 21 approved a subrecipient agreement with the City of Bell Gardens for the operations and maintenance of the John Anson Ford Park infiltration cistern, a regional stormwater project that was completed and began operating in 2025.
Public Works Director Bridal Diaz explained the regional partnership through the Gateway Water Management Authority and the LAR UR2 group, which identified six regional projects and prioritized the John Anson Ford Park cistern. The project was funded in part through Proposition 1 grant funds and regional cost-sharing memoranda of understanding.
Staff presented a cost allocation: the project’s estimated annual cost is $100,000; 50% of that ($50,000) is divided equally among the seven member cities, and the remaining 50% is allocated based on watershed land-area percentages. Under that allocation, Cudahy’s estimated annual contribution is $9,668. Staff said the payment will be made from Measure W funds.
Council moved and the council approved the subrecipient agreement by roll call (Fuentes: Yes; Gomez: Yes; Lomeli: Yes; Vice Mayor Doctor Gonzales: Yes; Mayor Alcantar Loza: Yes). Staff said Cudahy will submit two future projects for cost sharing through the regional group, including a bioswale and a storm drain expansion at a low point on Flora Boulevard.
