Jacksonville Housing Authority outlines Durkeeville homes, VASH RFP and wait‑list data

Sharron Corbett Waller, CEO of the Jacksonville Housing Authority, gave the committee an annual update on Aug. 19, describing immediate project work and programmatic priorities since joining JHA on April 14, 2025.
Waller said the council previously approved $1,000,000 in emergency financial assistance to build five single‑family homes in the Durkeeville neighborhood; she told council the group expects the homes to be ready for a groundbreaking in September 2025 and invited council members to a site tour on Aug. 29. “The homes are looking totally phenomenal,” she said.
On veterans’ housing, Waller described a planned solicitation to create a one‑stop landlord/owner approach to housing VASH (VA/HUD) voucher participants to speed placements. She said the RFP will be listed on marketplace and on JHA’s site and could support requests to the VA later to obtain an additional 75–100 vouchers.
Waller gave operational figures: JHA controls roughly 14 developments and is allocated 2,329 ACC units with 2,281 leased (she cited about 98–98.6% overall occupancy). She said the public housing wait list contains roughly 24,000 names (traditional public housing) and that JHA is scrubbing wait‑list data to reduce redundancy and better target outreach.
Council members pressed on community land‑trust partnerships and use of specific sites such as Lincoln Court; Waller said JHA plans to discuss community‑land‑trust collaboration later in the month and will explore whether to issue solicitations for identified sites.
