Scott Hayes, executive director of the Northwest Accreditation Alliance, presented the Kenai Police Department with its second reaccreditation on Nov. 5, saying accreditation "is one step towards building community trust." Hayes told the council the Alliance evaluates agencies against 110 law‑enforcement standards and requires agencies to document policies, procedures and proof of compliance.
Mayor Mary Nakstead and Council members praised Chief David Ross and Lieutenant Ben Langham, the departmentaccreditation manager, for their work. Chief Ross said he was "very proud of our police department" and thanked staff who prepared the agency for the review.
Hayes described reaccreditation as a scrutiny process that happens every three years and noted the Allianceboard includes representatives from Alaska and Oregon public‑safety organizations. The council offered formal thanks and closed the presentation without a separate action item.
