Somers Point council approves a batch of routine resolutions; one recusal noted

Somers Point City Council approved a package of resolutions at its Sept. 24 meeting covering leases, contract change orders, procurement and executive-session authorizations.

Key outcomes:

- Resolution 206 of 2025: Authorized a lease with the Atlantic County Library (retroactive for 2025). Passed by voice vote.

- Resolution 207 of 2025: Authorized Change Order No. 1 increasing the cost of Resolution 100 of 2025 by $3,935.11 and authorized Mayor Dennis Tapp to execute the change order. Passed by voice vote.

- Resolution 208 of 2025: Accepted bid results and acknowledged terms to participate in the South Jersey Power Cooperative electricity-supply purchase. Passed.

- Resolution 209 of 2025: Authorized purchase of firefighting equipment and rescue tools through the Sourcewell contract with Municipal Emergency Services Inc. Passed.

- Resolution 210 of 2025: Authorized purchase of firefighting apparatus through Sourcewell/Oshkosh. Passed.

- Resolutions 211 to 216: Authorized executive sessions for ongoing litigation, anticipated contractual negotiations (including a potential new City Hall public-private partnership), Mount Laurel settlement follow-up, and affordable-housing obligations. All were approved and scheduled for executive session at the end of the public meeting.

- Resolution 217: Awarded a bid and authorized a contract for a new City Hall floor; one member recorded a "no" vote but the resolution passed.

- Resolution 218: Authorized hiring of school crossing guards and recognized long-serving crossing guard Mary Matricardia (hire date cited as March 1, 1989). Passed.

Council member (speaker 12) stated he would recuse himself on Resolutions 212, 215 and 2 15 earlier in the meeting because of a conflict of interest related to a third party; the recusal was noted on the record before the votes. Several resolutions were approved without roll-call tallies recorded in the public record other than voice votes.
