A representative from Linn County’s tourism office briefed Marion City Council on the department’s outreach, event wins and marketing statistics, saying the office seeks to bring outside visitor dollars and jobs into Linn County.
Julie (Linn County tourism) said the office is largely funded through hotel‑motel tax and a destination marketing fee and highlighted 2023 results: “that resulted in over $481,000,000 and putting over 5,000 of our residents to work.” She described successful recruitment of conferences and niche groups — from Future Business Leaders of America to international locksmiths and jugglers — and noted sports tourism drew thousands to local events.
Julie also reviewed digital performance, reporting strong year‑over‑year gains in social followers, impressions and digital engagement, and highlighted a marathon planned for June 7, 2026 with an expected 2,500 runners. Council members asked about strategy for repeat groups; Julie said relationship building and personalized servicing are central.
