L'Anse Creuse board approves hires, student recognition and expulsions in routine business meeting

At its Nov. 10 Committee of the Whole meeting, the L'Anse Creuse Public Schools Board approved several personnel and student matters and completed routine business.
The board unanimously approved the hiring of a director for the Pankow Center after HR described a process that included 14 applicants and staff input; the candidate thanked the board and pledged to support students and staff. "I am truly honored by this appointment and deeply grateful for the confidence that the board and the district has in my leadership," the newly selected candidate told trustees.
Earlier the board recognized two horticulture students for placing at state competitions. The teacher representative said Madison Nebauer placed fourth at the state level in an agricultural food and natural resources contest and Jackson Weingartz placed sixth; Jackson also represented Michigan at the Youth Global Food Prize.
On discipline items, the board voted to approve expulsions for student numbers 0426 and 0427 and approved a recommendation for reinstatement/placement for student 0430 to the Pankow Center. Trustees asked staff to include residency‑verification details in future packets for reinstatement cases.
Routine business included approval of the consent agenda by roll call (unanimous) and a board motion to adopt a resolution authorizing collection of February taxes. The meeting concluded after a closed session for negotiation strategy and brief board comments honoring Veterans Day and congratulating students and staff.
