Following the ordinance vote, the Russell County Physical Court addressed several routine and grant items.
The court approved a $2,000 transfer to support the county’s animal-welfare spay-and-neuter program after a motion and voice vote recorded by the clerk.
The court accepted a 2025 COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grant of $166,960 to fund one officer for three years to provide hospital security. The motion was made by Magistrate Nash and seconded by Magistrate Richardson and approved by voice vote; county staff will process the grant paperwork and the Sheriff’s Office was identified as the implementing department.
A representative of the Russell County Soil Conservation District reported program statistics (493 animal removals year-to-date and reimbursements totaling $31,465) and requested $5,000 in matching funds. The court approved the $5,000 match, consistent with previous county contributions and intended to support the district’s state matching applications.
Other administrative items included consideration of towing-service applications, a report of alcohol-sales receipts for September ($11,677.18 received in October) and a brief recognition of local artwork. A motion to adjourn was approved by voice vote.
The court’s actions on grants and matching funds were routine, recorded by motion and voice vote, and the meeting minutes will reflect the approvals and next administrative steps for processing funds and grant documentation.
