At public comment, Tammy Daniels described a string of incidents involving her autistic granddaughter that she said revealed lapses in the district’s handling of sensitive special‑education information.
Daniels said the child attends a private day school and that district records still listed a court‑restricted person from three years earlier, creating a transportation scheduling risk where a prohibited person might have been contacted or allowed access. Daniels said the family provided updated records two years ago but school transportation staff relied on outdated files. "We changed her records 2 years ago. That person is deemed by the court and her providers no contact. That could have been catastrophic," Daniels said.
She described a separate IEP scheduling error that included the court‑restricted person on an invite list and said a bus driver disclosed private information to someone outside the permitted circle; the disclosure led to an emotional breakdown for the child, Daniels said. She urged more robust FERPA and confidentiality training for drivers and transportation staff and asked how federal or one‑time funds previously distributed to schools have been used for mental‑health training or staff education.
Daniels concluded by asking the district to correct procedures quickly and said she could not, in good conscience, place her granddaughter on a bus with the same driver unless the district acted. Chair and staff acknowledged the comment and moved to the consent agenda.
