The Natchitoches Parish School Board on Nov. 11 approved several routine and programmatic items in a series of roll-call votes.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding with National Medical Center that will support health-occupations experiential learning for students. The motion was offered and seconded and passed by roll-call vote with the members recorded as voting yes.
The board also approved item 7b: permission to advertise for agricultural lease bids. Superintendent Eloy noted the lease agreement included in the packet is the form the winning bidder will sign and does not include bid amounts; staff will prepare separate bid documents that can include a minimum bid if the board desires. The motion passed by roll call with one abstention recorded from Miss Phelps.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda and later took up a package of executive-report items (items a–g). During discussion of the executive package, a board member asked about camera systems used in special-education settings. Eloy said, “30 days, which the state law mandates that we have to have it as a minimum of 30 days,” and added staff will preserve footage earlier if parents raise concerns. The board approved the executive items by roll-call vote.
What was voted on (at a glance):
- Consent agenda: motion by Emile Metoyer; second by Danzi; voice vote carried.
- Item 7a — MOU with National Medical Center: motion offered by Mister McGuire; second by Miss Magaski; roll-call vote recorded as all 'yes' and motion passed.
- Item 7b — Permission to advertise agricultural lease bids: motion offered by Miss Palmer; second by Mister Metoyer; roll-call vote recorded with multiple 'yes' votes and one abstention by Miss Phelps; motion passed.
- Executive report (items a–g): taken together, motion passed by roll-call vote.
Why it matters: The MOU aims to create or expand experiential training opportunities for students interested in health careers; the agricultural lease authorization begins a procurement process that will determine use of parish land and any revenue terms; camera-retention clarification reiterates the district’s minimum retention period required by state law.
The board did not take any new budgetary commitments at the meeting beyond routine approvals; several items (the agricultural lease and any potential playground donations) will require separate future staff work to implement.
