Committee approves vehicle and truck contracts to support resurfacing and pothole work

The committee approved two emergency ordinances to update and replace public-works equipment used in resurfacing and pothole repair.
Public Works staff described a request (ordinance 13-50-2025) to authorize purchase, lease or purchase-option contracts for on-road and off-road vehicles and related equipment including a pothole roller, asphalt roller and a trailer. A companion ordinance (13-51-2025) authorizes requirement contracts for rental of large-capacity trucks with operators for a one-year term and two one‑year renewal options.
A department commissioner said the equipment procurement is primarily to replace obsolete rollers in the fleet and support the pothole and resurfacing program. On grindings, staff said a portion of asphalt grindings will be recycled through the city's asphalt recycling machines and returned to the asphalt plant when there is sufficient inventory. Council members recommended staff inspect dumped grindings reported on Waterloo Road.
Both ordinances were vetted in committee and approved for signature.
