Brighton council unanimously selects Chris Tobey as mayor, Jim Bohm as mayor pro tem

The Brighton City Council unanimously selected Chris Tobey as mayor and Jim Bohm as mayor pro tem at its Nov. 10, 2025 biennial meeting. Clerk Brown announced the ballots were unanimous, and both officials were sworn in during the meeting.

"Thank you so much for reelecting us as council members and thank you so much for electing to approve our City Of Brighton Street Millage," said Mayor Chris Tobey, who opened the meeting with remarks thanking voters and noting the millage will fund street work though routes and methods remain to be decided. City Manager Gamolka led the council through the nomination and oath process and congratulated the members after the selections were announced.

Councilmembers present included Albert, Susan Gardner, Gibson, Pettengill and Schmick; Clerk Brown recorded the roll call. The council handled mayoral nominations by ballot after nominations were solicited; the clerk reported the vote as unanimous and announced the results.

The meeting included administration of the oath of office. Clerk Brown administered oath language affirming support for the U.S. and state constitutions and a commitment to faithfully discharge duties for the City of Brighton. No roll-call tally by individual names was recorded in the transcript beyond the clerk's announcement that the votes were unanimous.

The council did not take further binding actions on policy at the meeting. The mayor said the council will consider how to allocate the recently approved street millage funds in future meetings.
