The Santa Clara City Council moved into closed session after completing roll call and briefly discussing absences.
City staff announced three closed-session items. The city attorney said, “Actually, 3, mayor,” and listed them: a conference with legal counsel about anticipated litigation “to discuss both exposure to litigation and potential initiation of litigation at this point up to 2 potential cases”; a conference with labor negotiators covering the Santa Clara firefighters (Unit 1), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Unit 3), the Engineers Group (Unit 4) and Unclassified Police Management (Unit 9A); and a conference with legal counsel regarding existing litigation, City of Santa Clara v. Lingenfelter. The attorney also noted that the item on anticipated litigation continues discussions begun on November 4.
The presiding official asked whether any members of the public wished to comment on the closed-session items; none were present in the chambers and none were online. The council then adjourned the open meeting and convened the closed session in a larger room to accommodate participants. No formal votes or public decisions on the substantive items were recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
The council did not announce any follow-up steps in open session. Further public updates, if any, would be made after the council reconvenes in public session or through later agenda materials.
