Board approves auction of surplus vehicles and equipment; director warns limited resale value

The Romulus Community Schools Board of Education voted Nov. 10 to auction surplus district vehicles and equipment through an online auction service. Director of Operations Jason Perkins said the items include old vehicles and two buses and recommended auctioning them to recover value while freeing storage and reducing maintenance costs.
"I just hope that we're not anticipating a big payday from this because... the old vehicles are in pretty poor condition," Perkins said. The motion, moved by Trustee Kennard and supported by Trustee Rogers, passed on roll call. Perkins encouraged publicity of the auction to maximize bids and provided the auction URL (biddergy.com) as the listing location.
Trustees briefly discussed electric buses and noted some districts have reported reliability issues; Perkins said he has heard mostly negative reports so far and that scale may shift over time. The board approved the single auction and Perkins said a second auction (for cafeteria tables and other items) will be brought forward soon.
