Kamaya Martin, president of Romulus High’s National Honor Society, presented club activities (Santa Shop, gift-wrapping, a reward trip) and told the board the chapter has about 40 members; board members praised the students and asked about participation and college plans.
Kamaya Martin, president of the Romulus High School National Honor Society, told the Romulus Community Schools Board of Education on Nov. 10 that the chapter runs volunteer programs including a Santa Shop that gives kindergarteners and students with special needs two free gifts and a gift-wrapping fundraiser that raised donations. "The Santa shop is our favorite event because we give back," Martin said.
The student described an escape-room reward trip to Ann Arbor and said the group wrapped about 200 gifts last year. She identified officers — Alyssa Hoeing (vice president) and Jillian Hoeing (secretary) — and adviser Miss Smith. When asked about membership, Martin said the chapter currently has about 40 students.
Board members used the presentation to ask about student leadership and postsecondary plans. Martin said she has applied to multiple colleges and named Michigan State, University of Michigan and Wayne State among her choices. Trustee remarks praised students for leadership and community service; one trustee offered to donate a computer and accessories to support the student’s work.
The presentation closed with board appreciation for the chapter’s volunteer work and for the adviser’s support. The board then moved on to a vendor demonstration scheduled on the agenda.
