On Nov. 10 the Torrington City Council approved closing a long‑standing council‑managed savings account (Troynton Savings Bank account ending 5108, described in the packet as the "bridal" account) and authorized transfer of the remaining balance, $5,070.65, to the Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department.
Chief Tripp told the council the account was created in 1994 to support coordination among volunteer fire departments, pay for standardized equipment, pagers and training. "This is the balance of just over $5,000 that Torrington has been executor of the account," he said, explaining that with Torrington's changes the funds should go to Drakeville so the account can be closed.
In a separate department update, Chief Tripp said all East Side vehicles and the related bank accounts are now in the city's name and that an MOU for the building/property has been executed. He introduced newly hired Deputy Chief Benny Chasanik and invited council to a promotions ceremony at Torrington High School; he expects a fuller staffing and occupancy report in December.
The motion to close the account and transfer the balance carried without recorded opposition.
