DCA tells pharmacy board of new executive hires, training assignments and agency reorganization

Shelley Jones, assistant deputy director for board and bureau relations at the Department of Consumer Affairs, briefed the California State Board of Pharmacy on Nov. 5 about two executive appointments, changes to mandatory board member training and the state agency reorganization.
Jones said Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Lucy Saldivar as deputy director for board and bureau relations; Jones said she also was appointed to serve as assistant deputy director for that office. Jones described new harassment-prevention training assigned through the department's learning-management system and said unconscious-bias training for board members will be added to onboarding.
Jones also said the DCA reorganization — splitting Business, Consumer Services and Housing into two separate agencies — is underway and will take effect in July 2026. She said work groups are addressing logistics and that leadership will provide an update at the board’s December meeting. Jones also reminded members about the Our Promise California charitable campaign running through Dec. 31.
Board member Claudia Mercado asked about Senate Bill 702 (transparency to boards); Jones said she would review the bill and follow up with the board executive officer.
