County staff presented plans, specifications and a letting date of Feb. 17, 2026 for HMA resurfacing with milling on S56 from Highway 57 north to Main Street in Geneva, a roughly 12-mile segment. The project scope discussed includes a 2-inch profile mill and a 3-inch overlay and will be carried out with a portion of federal-aid funds in the regional program.
"It's our federal aid project... we get 1,200,000.0 or whatever for next summer," a staff member said while describing project extents and federal funding participation for paving work near Hackley, Ackley and Geneva. Staff noted trail adjacency that will not require federalizing the trail as part of this contract and discussed potential separate safety-fund applications for curve improvements.
The board moved and seconded the plans, specifications and letting date and approved the project by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will finalize bid documents and publish the notice to bidders ahead of the Feb. 17, 2026 letting.
