Superintendent Dr. Moises Aguirre opened his message at the Nov. 11 Sweetwater Union High School District board meeting with condolences for the families of students named in the session and updates on district programs and partnerships.
“Please know that our thoughts and our prayers are with their families at this time,” Aguirre said, naming three students. He detailed recent site visits — including Castle Park High School, Rancho Del Rey, Mar Vista High School and Granger Junior High — and thanked staff and partners who organized student-centered events, including a college-and-construction fair and a Filipino-American students-and-parents conference.
Aguirre told the board the district created a website to help students and families during the federal government shutdown with information on food distribution and other resources. He also described the district’s “heart-safe” initiative, saying the district trained roughly “22,000 of our students in the life saving art of CPR” and invested in automated external defibrillators on campuses; the superintendent said the district is awaiting formal recognition from a national organization.
Aguirre also congratulated student representative Elizabeth Flores on being named one of three finalists for student representative to the State Board of Education and previewed upcoming Veterans Day acknowledgements. The superintendent’s remarks were presented as informational; no formal board action tied to the initiatives was recorded during the meeting.
