Developer JL Ferguson of Georgia Cogreen Ventures introduced a public-art proposal for the ground-floor windows at 11 Garden Street, a forthcoming affordable housing project. "It's a 219 affordable housing units, on 11 Garden Street," Ferguson said, describing the development context for the artwork. Ferguson presented two artists from Evari Studio (Moshe Bersicker and a collaborator) who said they are producing five one-of-a-kind glass panels for the project's ground-floor windows and that the work is currently in fabrication.
Commission staff advised the applicants that a formal application (with renderings, dimensions and photos showing the artwork in context) should be submitted ahead of the next meeting to allow the board to take a referral vote. Ferguson and the artists said they would complete a formal application and follow the staff guidance.
The commission also heard artist certification presentations. Levar James described his work in theater, film and arts education and said he seeks New Rochelle artist certification to access city resources. "I'm interested in the New Rochelle art certification so that I could, possibly take advantages of some of the resources they have," James said. Staff explained that the commission does not take final certification votes during this presentation session and encouraged applicants to submit supporting materials for administrative review.
The commission concluded the administrative items and adjourned the meeting.
