Marion County commissioners approved a five-year maintenance-plan contract with Southern Corrosion after staff presented a side-by-side comparison of two vendors.
Speaker 5, who reviewed the bids, said Southern Corrosion quoted a first-year cost of $1,640.92 and projected a five-year total of $104,542.44 assuming 3% annual increases, compared with Robinson's five-year total of $136,500. "So $31,000 cheaper over a 5 year period," Speaker 5 said. He added that under a 5% annual increase scenario Southern Corrosion would still be less expensive than Robinson's quote.
"My recommendation to the board is we we go with southern corrosion, but that's up to y'all," Speaker 5 said. Speaker 3 moved to approve the Southern Corrosion contract and the presiding member (Speaker 2) declared the motion carried after a vote with no recorded opposition.
The board discussed product differences between the two firms; Speaker 5 said each company offered stronger terms on different items but that the overall cost favored Southern Corrosion. The motion carried without named dissent.
The board did not record a formal roll-call tally in the transcript. The decision will proceed to contracting and implementation steps with staff assigned to finalize the agreement and monitor CPI-based increases noted during the discussion.
