Danbury board to add AI awareness to digital-citizenship resolution, proposes state-funded AI steering committee

Board member Kate proposed incorporating AI language into an already-proposed digital-citizenship resolution rather than creating a stand-alone AI resolution; she said that approach might increase the edit's chance of passage. "I'm actually looking at one of the newly proposed resolutions... I just added an AI element to the existing language," Kate said.
Separately, board members drafted committee language that would ask the General Assembly to fund the State Department of Education to convene an AI steering committee to meet quarterly, hear guest experts and medical and academic presenters, and provide ongoing guidance to districts on how AI affects schools, instruction and child development.
Board members emphasized the language should focus on oversight and guidance rather than detailed operational policy. Michael said CABE prefers 'fully baked' language in advance so it can be included in the proposed-resolutions book and debated at the assembly. The board agreed to finalize the wording at a Wednesday community relations meeting before the delegate assembly.
Next steps: Kate will finalize the edit to the digital-citizenship item and Michael will present the steering-committee language as a new resolution for CABE consideration.
