Board approves course changes, dual-enrollment applications and student travel proposals

The Wisconsin Rapids School Board approved numerous curriculum updates and student travel proposals recommended by the Educational Services Committee.
The board accepted committee motions to eliminate accelerated financial algebra and reduce financial algebra credit to 0.5 in the Lincoln High School program of studies beginning with the 2026–27 school year. The district approved a new Tech College dual-credit math course for juniors and seniors, and modified prerequisites for intermediate algebra to require a C-minus or better in algebra and geometry, teacher approval, or specified passing grades in Tech College math.
AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics will continue to count as social studies graduation credits but will no longer satisfy the district's financial literacy credit beginning with the 2026–27 school year. The committee also recommended new or renamed electives and course offerings including Raider Arts (0.5 elective credit), adaptive arts for special education students in grades 6–8, Life Responders (0.5 elective for grades 10–12), and expanded availability of core strength and fitness across trimesters. Board members approved these changes as part of the Educational Services consent items ES 1–15 and ES 18–20.
The board also approved 29 Start College Now applications for Mid-State Technical College courses in 2025–26 (20 applications for Lincoln High School students and nine for River Cities High School students). Roxanne Filts noted there were no Early College Credit applications for the spring term.
On student travel, the board approved two proposed overseas trips: a world languages trip to France (approximate cost $4,942 per student) organized by World Languages teacher Justine Horvath for June 2027, and an art trip to Italy, France and Spain (approximate cost $5,029 per student) organized by LHS art teacher Janine Clayman. Both trips include fundraising plans and were recommended by the committee.
