Middle‑school students to glaze new tiles for Kayla’s Playground; commission supports plan

McGillton said she led a volunteer effort to refresh the tiles in 2023 and is proposing a student‑led program this coming semester. The commission discussed logistics including production as part of school curriculum, timing for installation next spring, and options for the existing tiles — commissioners suggested offering removed tiles to the public or installing them in a library display.
Separately, commissioners volunteered to lead outreach for Arbor Day (suggested for the first Saturday in May, with a 9:00 a.m. start) and discussed inviting partner groups, including the Weir Nature Center and local stormwater and conservation organizations, to staff outreach tables and activities.
There was no formal vote on the tile project at this meeting; staff and the presenter said they will coordinate timing and return with any required permits or installation details.
