Youth Advisory Council presents annual report documenting 4,000+ volunteer hours and community projects

The Riverside County Youth Advisory Council presented its 2024–25 annual report and district overviews, summarizing district projects, volunteer hours and plans for the coming year.
Staff and district representatives reported dozens of local events and several thousand volunteer hours across the five districts: District 1 reported about 45 events; District 2 reported roughly 40 projects and 2,348.5 volunteer hours; District 3 reported about 25 activities with roughly 740 hours; District 4 reported 21 initiatives with approximately 1,148 hours; and District 5 reported 27 projects with 901 hours. Collectively the council logged over 4,000 volunteer hours during the year.
Staff estimated the monetary equivalent of those volunteer hours using California's $16 minimum wage, noting the work would amount to more than $100,000, and cited an Independent Sector estimate that places the value at about $34.79 per hour (exceeding $251,000). Meeting presenters cautioned that exact monetary valuation is difficult but used those figures to illustrate substantial community contribution.
The council also reviewed the 27th annual youth retreat, held July 24, 2025, at Crestmore Manor, where participants received training, learned about the commission and attended a Brown Act presentation delivered by a county counsel representative. Commissioners praised the retreat for networking and information-sharing and discussed folding retreat lessons into district planning and committee work for the year.
Next steps: district councils will finalize committee membership, continue outreach and present district goals in the council's annual report to the Board of Supervisors in June 2026.
