Parma City superintendent outlines levy campaign, district audit and museum partnership

Superintendent Dr. Himes told the Parma City School District board on Sept. 11 that a levy committee is now active and working as the district’s strategic fundraising arm. "Jackie Marconi ... is chairing the committee alongside co-chair Samantha Handexler," he said, and the group is working with Support Ohio Schools on marketing, strategy and voter modeling through Oct. 29.
Dr. Himes said he engaged Burns Van Fleet to perform an operational audit this summer. "They reviewed staffing, special education, alternative education, enrollment, benefits, buildings and grounds," he told the board, and added the audit report is complete and will be reviewed at senior leadership with recommendations to follow.
The superintendent also reported the district has begun exploratory talks with the local historical museum about building a schoolhouse at Byers Field that could provide spaces for professional development, leadership meetings and potential board use. "There are no other details at this point," he said, describing the discussions as initial.
Dr. Himes closed his report by noting he will present at the National Superintendents Conference in Phoenix on a Parma City Schools–focused topic titled "Renew, Reimagine and Lead," and that he will be out of the district until Sept. 17.
What’s next: senior leadership will review the Burns Van Fleet audit and bring considerations back to the board; the levy committee continues meetings through Oct. 29 and the museum discussions are at an early exploratory stage.
