Harvey County undersheriff reports stolen trailer recovery and active investigation into human remains

Sean Chapman, Harvey County under sheriff, briefed the board on public safety items during the Oct. 21 meeting.
Chapman said two new patrol cars recently put into service and thanked the commission for approving them. He highlighted a Flock system hit that led to the recovery and return of a stolen trailer; Chapman said the NCIC entry had not been removed by the originating agency, which led to a delay before release. He also told commissioners that non‑injury crashes—largely animal strikes—are increasing and urged awareness as rutting season begins.
Regarding a more serious matter, Chapman said human remains discovered by a farmer remain an active investigation: "We are still that's still kind of an active investigation and just trying to get positive identification," he said. Chapman asked that commissioners expect increased investigative activity in the field while identification proceeds.
