Board refers state-driven policy updates to committee and waives 24‑hour layover to accept committee report

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board on Oct. 21 reviewed several policy updates flowing from state legislative action and voted to refer them to the policy committee for review.
The superintendent identified seven items to refer (agenda items 6a–g): policy JAA (equal educational opportunities), policy G (equal opportunity employment), policy JDA (corporal punishment), policy JD (discipline), policy IDDFC (cameras in special education classrooms), policy IDDF (education for students with disabilities) and policy JB (attendance). The superintendent said the attendance item was time‑sensitive because it affects how many parent notes are accepted this semester.
The board voted to refer all items to the policy committee. Separately, the board moved and seconded to waive the policy that requires committee reports to lay over for 24 hours so the board could accept the policy committee report that afternoon; the board said the waiver was to allow immediate implementation of an attendance change (adjusting allowed absence notes). Both the referral and the waiver carried on roll call votes.
The board then approved the policy committee minutes for Oct. 21 by roll call.
