The Tangipahoa Parish personnel committee voted unanimously Nov. 4 to authorize the district to advertise three licensed practical nurse (LPN) positions to support students with specific medical needs.
Administration presented the request, saying the openings respond to immediate student health requirements. "We come to you tonight for the approval to advertise for 3 additional LPN positions," an administrator told the committee, noting one posting would support a diabetic student, another would serve a student who will have a tracheotomy tube, and the third would provide nursing coverage for a school with about 1,200 students covering both lower and upper grades.
The committee moved the item forward without discussion. Miss Dominguez moved to accept administration's recommendation; Miss Richards seconded. The clerk recorded votes of yes from Miss Abrams, Miss Dominguez, Mr. Piazza, Miss Richards and Mr. Toler; the chair announced the motion carried.
The committee did not specify a recruitment timeline, salary range or hiring timeline during the meeting. The positions were described as additions to the personnel department and will proceed to advertisement per the committee's approval.
Next steps: staff indicated the district will place the advertisements and return with hires or further updates as appropriate.
