The Tangipahoa Parish School Board voted Oct. 21 to authorize the sale of an old maintenance shed to the Town of Amite for $215,000, approve a five‑year leaseback so the district may continue using the building, and proceed with plans to construct a replacement maintenance facility on district property.
Finance director Mr. McNeely briefed the board that the appraisal exceeded the $215,000 sale price and that the district will have a five‑year, rent‑back arrangement allowing continued use of the building while a new maintenance facility is planned. He said the district expects to construct a roughly 6,000‑square‑foot maintenance building on district property with an estimated cost of about $240,000. Questions from board members focused on storage of equipment during the transition; McNeely said the district has a plan to move items into air‑conditioned space in the new building and consolidate operations on a single property.
Mr. Duncan made the motion to approve the authorization; Mr. Piazza seconded. The board conducted a roll call vote; each member present voted yes and the motion carried.
The board did not vote on final construction contracts during the meeting; the vote authorized execution of sale documents and leaseback terms so the district can proceed with site planning and procurement.
