Council members welcomed and swore in a new Rossford firefighter at the start of the Oct. 27 meeting.
Public safety leaders reported that the new transport unit has been ordered but carries a 10' to 12-month lead time. Chief Siroca said the open house was successful and that the department's four newest full-time members have begun and are completing ride time; two additional hires previously had drive time as part-time members and therefore required less initial training. Training schedules have been delayed recently; the Public Safety Academy was canceled for the past two weeks and a graduation date was postponed.
Members of the council and staff also thanked city departments and volunteers for organizing the Halloween parade and Race for Recovery events, noting a record number of floats and strong turnout. Council and staff praised the Rossford High School band for earning a "1" (superior rating) at state competition and recognized the school staff, volunteers and families who supported the students.
Councilwoman Reynolds asked the community to keep Ellen Uredia in thoughts and prayers following surgery. Council members also flagged wrong-way driver reports on Bergen and asked police to monitor the area.
The meeting closed after public comment and adjournment.
