The Navasota City Council on Oct. 27 held a public hearing on a substandard building at 709 FM 379 and voted to issue an order to repair the structure, subject to staff review and monthly progress reports. If the owner fails to meet the approved schedule, the city said it will pursue demolition or put a lien on the property for remedial costs.
Staff told the council the property owner submitted an action plan shortly before the deadline but was not present. An owner representative, Eric, told the council the work could take up to eight months; he acknowledged that electrical and plumbing work would require licensed contractors and that he had been dealing with the property since 2023.
Mayor Bert Miller closed the public hearing and moved to issue the repair order. The council included a requirement that the owner submit monthly status reports in writing demonstrating compliance with the repair schedule. Staff explained that if the owner does not meet the time frames, the city could proceed with demolition and place a lien for the cost of the work.
The motion carried by voice vote.
