Board schedules Aug. 25 interviews to fill school‑board vacancy; six candidates named

The board announced the six candidates by name: Rochelle Hatcher, Catherine LaValle, Kate Flores, Brandon Phoenix, Kira Gladney and Stacy Olsen.
The board discussed voting procedure for appointments. Board staff said the appointment will follow state law governing vacancies: the appointee will serve until December 2026 and must reside within the Battle Creek Public School District. Trustees also discussed logistics for interview order and agreed to avoid quorum‑breaking communications when collecting members’ questions.
No appointment was made at the Aug. 11 work session; the interviews and candidate evaluation will occur at the Aug. 25 meeting, followed by an appointment vote when members have completed interviews and deliberation.
