Sheree Pike of the county’s environmental enforcement office told the court the grant application window is open for roughly 30 days and that staff propose using the funding to support tire and large-item collection. Pike said possible event locations include the Pedigo Park pavilion and the site near the Texas Craft Fair at 3300 Highway 190; she also noted facility rental costs could be included in the grant budget. The court was asked to identify potential matching funds or in-kind contributions such as meals for event workers, equipment/operator time, or trustee labor from the sheriff’s office.
The motion to proceed with the application was offered as a recommendation from Commissioner Cassidy, seconded by Commissioner Pervis. The court voted “Aye” and the motion carried.
Court staff said the event model would follow last year’s format but expand collection capacity with additional containers and a larger covered staging area. Pike said the county will confirm a final site and budget details to strengthen the application and to document any required matches.
Next steps: staff will finalize the application and submit it within the grant window; the county plans the collection event for March 2026 if the grant and logistic arrangements proceed.
