The Mariposa County Historic Sites and Records Preservation Commission on Sept. 8 reviewed an edited draft of its outreach presentation for a proposed Historic Design Review Overlay (HDRO) and discussed timing and channels for public outreach.
Paulina, a planning staff member who presented the draft in the assessor-recorder's absence, told commissioners she had attached an edited version of the presentation and wanted final approval before producing flyers and hard-copy materials. "I got GIS to make us a special one," Paulina said, referring to a simplified boundary map the commission praised for clarity.
Commissioners commended the slide that lays out the three-step HDRO process and recommended the handout include a clear subline explaining that the process covers exterior changes or improvements. One commissioner suggested adding the Mariposa County Planning Department's phone and email on the final slide so residents know who to contact with questions; Paulina agreed to put that contact information on the hard-copy resource.
The commission also discussed likely timing for outreach, with October and November named as possible starting points and the option of continuing presentations throughout the year depending on availability. Commissioners recommended involving the county public information officer to distribute short items in the newspaper and on social media and to photograph outreach events.
Next steps: staff will refine the presentation and draft printed materials, add Planning Department contact information, and report back to the commission at a future meeting to set a firm outreach timeline.
